Seeds for the Heart
First Christmas Party
After the walkathon and the toy
drive, we were finally at the point of the first party, for children whose
mothers are in transition and for whom the church provides free daycare.
The toddlers (average age two years) and the older children (average age four
years) are in separate play rooms. We divided our time equally between the
two rooms. The ladies who volunteer their time there have their hands full
on a regular basis, but for us it was so much fun to spend time with the kids,
especially seeing their eyes light up when they got their gifts. One
little girl, grinning from ear to ear, said: "I've waited my WHOLE LIFE for
a Barbie." Whenever the kids wanted their pictures taken (I brought
my digital camera, and they would look at the screen and say: "I want to be
on TV!") they would strike a Spiderman pose, which Celeste and Linda
mistook for some sort of gang symbol. We had a great time.
