An Evening With Randy Newman
For those who don't know, Randy Newman is America's greatest musician and composer and our best-kept secret. I was fortunate to be able to see Randy Newman play with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on the first of two nights he played at Atlanta Symphony Hall. Through my membership in the Randy Group (and many thanks to Susan!), I was able to get my name on the list of Little Criminals to meet him after the show. One of the ladies who works for the ASO commented after the show that she was amazed at the variety of his music, the incredible melodies, the comedy and the tragedy. I saw him perform solo in 1980 at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany. Last night he played with the full orchestra and conducted when they performed a selection of film scores he composed. Both were incredible experiences. It was a thrill for me to meet one of my heroes. He was very gracious, spending quite some time chatting with us, posing for photographs and autographing our mementoes. The tour isn't over yet. Get out there and get tickets! Or go and buy some of his albums. Either way, you're in for a real treat.
